Can a little 1.3 Endurance Road Rally car hold it’s own on Jerseys Parperclix Rally?
In just over 14 days the Parperclix Jersey Rally will kick off on the small island. Over 115 road miles during the day and night await the 80 crews on the weekend of October the 9th, 10th & 11th.
2013 winners Stevie Leonard & Sion Humphreys start the event off in their Group 4 Escort Mk2 with multiple previous winners Simon Mauger & Brian Cammack away in car 2. But a little further down the field in car 77 is the pairing of Philip Harris & Liam Burns.
Phil 40, and Liam 27, are taking their Daihatsu Sirion Rally 2 over for the event to see how the Endurance Road Rally spec car will compare to the more equipped stage rally cars. With only 1293cc, the smallest of the 80 car field, it produces 115hp. Not completely sure how it will fair against the Corolla and Impreza WRC cars, but in the class they are hoping for a reasonable result. In the class there are several well equipped Nova’s as well as a Micra kit car or two, so being endurance rally specification they crew are already held back a little, speaking to Phil he hopes to be in for a class award by the end of the event and hopefully in the top half overall.
Several people will know Phil and Liam being multiple ASWMC Road Rally champions, and reigning as well as winning endurance and road events in the green pocket rocket. The crew were also Inter-Association British Champions in 2012, so they know their way around the lanes and the car!
The crew are hoping that the similarity of the roads on Jersey to local night events, as well as the fact a few of the stages are in the dark will be the the parings benefit. Being the first time on Jersey the crew are eager to give the event a good go!
We will be keeping an eye on the crew over the weekend of the event and hope to post a few updates on how they are getting on through Facebook and Twitter. Can they keep up with the likes of Adrian Smekss & Chris Neale in the Corsa, Nick Mauger & Gino Gouveia in the Micra and James Weaver & Teresa Butler in the MG ZR, we shall see!
