“Welcome to the 2016 Exmoor Targa Rally organised by Tavern Motor Club with support from Burnham-on-Sea and Minehead Motor Clubs on Saturday 10th September 2016.
Following the success of last year’s Exmoor Targa, we have devised a similar route with slightly more mileage but the same Entry Fee of £195 for 45 miles of top quality gravel tracks on Forestry Commission land and the tarmac of Porlock Toll Road. The Entry Fee also includes an evening meal at the Finish.
The event will be run under a Targa Road Rally permit thus allowing any 2WD Road Rally cars to compete. To keep the landowners happy, Road Rally cars will be subject to safety and tyre restrictions (see SR 6).
The format of the event will be as follows:
Scrutineering, documentation and the start will be at Raleghs Cross Inn, about 30 minutes from Taunton (Junction 25 on the M5). Trailer parking will also be provided at Raleghs Cross.
The first car will leave at 11.15am with a short run out to the first Special Tests on Forestry Commission land, followed by Porlock Toll Road before returning to Raleghs Cross for a late lunch.
Similar Special Tests will be run in the afternoon before competitors return to the Finish at Raleghs Cross, where an evening meal will be provided, allowing competitors to socialise while waiting for the results.
We recommend those travelling from further away to stay in Taunton where there is a good selection of hotels and other accommodation, to allow for the scrutineering will start 30 minutes later than last year at 8am. See SR27 for useful telephone numbers.
The route will be defined by a tulip road book and/or marked maps and diagrams, for both the link sections and competitive sections. No maps are required to complete the route, but 1:50,000 OS maps can be carried if desired.
For the novice we will again have a Clubmans event open to any member of Tavern Motor Club (temporary membership is available).
As always, we need a large number of marshals for a successful event, so this year we are offering a £10 discount / cashback to any crew who provides a marshal for the day (see SR 29).
