“In about 870 BC the eighth King of the Britons, Rudhudibras, is said to have founded Caer Palladwr. It is believed the Saxons later called it Scaeftesbyrig, and we know it today as Shaftesbury.
The Palladwr Rally was initially run as a pre-plot night road rally around the maze of roads in north Dorset, Somerset and Wiltshire. After achieving the dizzy heights of Motoring News and BTRDA Championship status, the event changed format to become a tarmac stage rally based primarily on the military roads of Salisbury Plain. After a break of eight years the event rose again in the form of a daylight historic road rally in 1992 and ran regularly throughout the 2000’s. We have once again revived the Palladwr Rally for this year 2016, and we are happy to say it will form the last round of the 2016 HRCR Hagerty Insurance Clubmans Road Rally Championship.
We will be using Worthy Farm again, the home of the Glastonbury Festival, which provides tarmac, gravel and loose road surfaces. Some test sites will be familiar to those who did the event in the early days or perhaps have competed on the Great Bustard Enduro rally in the past, but we also have a number of new challenging sites.
The rest of the rally will consist of a number of regularities, through some of the more interesting roads of Somerset, Wiltshire and Dorset. Route definition will be by instructions handed out along the route, to include herringbones, spot heights, etc. But there will be sufficient grid references for the novice navigator to rejoin the route if they do get lost! The entry fee will include a lunch and after rally meal.
Finally, Salisbury & Shaftesbury Car Club would like to acknowledge the help of members of Devizes and District MC and Woolbridge MC who have taken key roles in the organisation of this event.
We hope you all have an excellent day’s rallying in the beautiful South-West countryside.”
