“The Rally of the Tests returned to the classic rally calendar in 2012 under the leadership of new Clerk of the Course; Guy Woodcock.
A high quality entry enjoyed three days of tough rallying from Torquay to Chester and hailed the event as one of the best yet…Guy takes the reins once again in 2013 and will be assisted by Anthony Preston to bring you this year’s version, which traces an exciting new route from Chester to Harrogate (two towns synonymous with the RAC rallies of old).
Following comments from competitors in 2012, the event will contain much less “on the move” plotting, a descriptive routebook for the link sections on the two evening runs and shorter days giving more time for socialising. However, the event’s traditional values will be maintained – namely to seek out the classic test venues, to drive the most scenic routes and to tackle the more challenging roads from the 1950’s RAC rallies.
For 2013, the chosen starting point is the historic city of Chester. This year’s event starts on Thursday evening, with the traditional Prologue comprising a test and a few regularities to allow crews to get into the swing of things.
Next day, the rally starts in earnest as the route takes in classic rallying terrain as it loops through North Wales to the first overnight halt in Stoke-on-Trent. Saturday sees the event head north into Lancashire and Cumbria to explore the scenic but challenging roads of these traditional rally heartlands.
The day concludes with a super evening road rally section before stopping for the night on the southern edge of the Lake District. More classic sections follow on Sunday as the event traces a new route east into the Yorkshire Dales.
A final brace of challenging tests and regularities in the Vale of York precedes the finish in the spa town of Harrogate, where many an RAC Rally winner has been welcomed in the past by the cheering crowds. Will it be your turn this year…??”
